Short Description

The 6SD312EI are compact, plug-and-play, six-channel SCALE IGBT drivers for all EconoPACKTM+ and compatible modules.

The 6SD312EI drivers are  based on CONCEPT’s proprietary SCALE chipset, a proven technology for the reliable driving and safe operation of IGBTs. The drivers are fully equipped with protection functions such as Vce-monitoring for short-circuit protection, operation inhibit after fault, supply-undervoltage shut down.

The driver supplies a gate current of +12A/-6A. Operating the gates with a bipolar control voltage (typically ±15V) allows the  IGBT modules to be driven reliably with high immunity to interferences.

The drivers are featuring an active clamping function, which is the most rugged and best-performance way to protect the costly IGBTs.

On-board DC/DC converters provides self-contained insulated power supplies of 3W per channel.
 
The DIC40 electrical interface is working with 15V logic level to ensure high noise immunity.

The driver supports two independent driver channels per halfbridge or a half-bridge mode with internal dead-time generation.

The standard package of EconoPACK+ and compatible modules covers several voltage and current ratings. Some driver parameters must therefore be matched to the relevant module. This is done by placing all specific components on a separate basic board which is completely assembled and tested by CONCEPT.

The basic board contains all gate resistors, gate-clamping and active-clamping diodes (overvoltage protection) as well as the diodes for the collector-sense function (surgecurrent and short-circuit protection). Moreover, it includes components for setting the turn-off trip level and the response time. It contains only the usual through-hole components and can consequently be easily adjusted by the user to fit any special needs and applications.

The basic board can be soldered directly onto the IGBT module. The 6SD312EI driver is mounted on top of the relevant basic board by means of spacer bolts.


Reliability

SCALE drivers have been established on the market as an industrial standard since 1999. They have been tried and tested within hundreds of thousands of industrial and traction applications. The calculated MTBF according to MIL Hdbk 217F is 3.3 million hours at 40ºC for a six-channel driver. According to field data, the actual reliability is even higher.
